Matt’s career spans more than two decades across the applicator, owner, and inspection sides of the coatings industry, giving him a broad understanding of how coating decisions translate into real-world performance. His presentation will examine the factors that can influence a coatings system’s effectiveness, durability, and expected service life.

About Matt Mechler

Matt has more than 25 years of experience in the petrochemical industry, with expertise in corrosion mitigation, coatings, technical assurance, project execution, and regulatory readiness. At Shell Midstream, he led the company’s onshore exterior corrosion mitigation program across multiple U.S. locations and provided technical support for coatings and corrosion projects.

He also led Shell Midstream’s CUI program, collaborating with coating manufacturers, contractors, and internal teams to develop practical, fit-for-purpose solutions. Matt is an AMPP Senior Certified Coatings Inspector and holds NACE/AMPP certifications covering coatings inspection, corrosion, and cathodic protection. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University.
