Allstream Insiders Summary

Seadrill has reported contract awards and extensions totaling approximately $800 million of Total Contract Value across Indonesia, Malaysia, Angola and the U.S. Gulf. According to the offshore-drilling contractor’s November 3 third-quarter announcement, the activity includes a new Indonesian assignment for the West Carina, a series of option exercises for the West Capella in Malaysia, a Sonadrill extension in Angola and follow-on work for the Sevan Louisiana in the U.S. Gulf.

Seadrill said its contract backlog was approximately $3.3 billion as of November 3. The company also said more than 85% of its available drillship days are contracted in 2027. The backlog represents contracted drilling revenue, not a disclosed capital budget for new field development, subsea construction or onshore infrastructure.

The release identifies drilling-unit commitments and start windows, but it does not name the Indonesian operator, disclose the value of every individual award, or announce well plans, field-development budgets, subsea packages or service-company awards associated with the programs.

West Carina contract adds an Indonesia drilling program

Seadrill said the West Carina was awarded an Indonesia contract with approximately $420 million of firm-term Total Contract Value. The estimated firm period is 880 days and is expected to begin in the first half of 2027. Seadrill also disclosed priced options for as much as an additional 880 days.

The operator was not identified. The firm term and options establish a reported drilling-rig commitment, but the announcement does not identify the field, number of wells, water depth, drilling sequence, development schedule, operator capital budget or associated subsea and production-facility scopes.

Malaysia and Angola extensions lengthen rig commitments

In Malaysia, Seadrill said all remaining priced options for the West Capella were exercised for 120 days, adding approximately $41 million of Total Contract Value excluding additional services. It said unpriced options for a further 120 days were also exercised, adding approximately $53 million of Total Contract Value. The company expects the rig to continue working through February 2028.

In Angola, Seadrill’s 50:50 Sonadrill joint venture with an affiliate of Sonangol E.P. received an extension for the Sonangol Libongos. Seadrill said the remaining priced options extend current operations by approximately three years and commit the rig into 2030. The release does not identify the customer’s underlying development plans or the services associated with the rig programs.

U.S. Gulf work provides near-term Sevan Louisiana continuity

Seadrill said the Sevan Louisiana has a 25-day U.S. Gulf contract with Kosmos beginning in November 2026, followed by an approximately 60-day contract with LLOG. The two assignments are expected to keep the rig contracted into 2027.

The company did not disclose the field locations, well count, contract value, drilling objectives or service-provider list for those U.S. Gulf assignments. The announcement therefore supports the reported rig utilization period, not a conclusion that a separate offshore-development project or procurement package has been awarded.

What could be involved as offshore programs move into execution?

Allstream perspective: Depending on the operator’s development plan and well design, an offshore drilling program can require rig mobilization and marine logistics, drilling and completion services, tubulars and wellheads, blowout-preventer and drilling-equipment maintenance, fluids and waste handling, inspection and certification, subsea support, aviation and vessel services, and shore-base materials management.

Those are potential categories of work, not awards announced by Seadrill. The company has not identified the operators’ drilling contractors beyond the rig assignments, nor has it disclosed awards for well services, subsea equipment, production systems, pipelines, fabrication, marine construction or engineering.

Allstream perspective: Long-term rig coverage is visible; field-development scope remains undisclosed

Seadrill’s update provides a meaningful view of offshore-drilling demand across four markets, particularly through the West Carina firm term, the West Capella extension and the Angola commitment into 2030. The reported $800 million of Total Contract Value and $3.3 billion backlog describe the company’s contracted drilling portfolio, rather than a single project’s construction budget.

For suppliers and service providers, the next decision-useful announcements would name individual fields, well programs, development approvals, rig-mobilization plans, subsea and production-system awards, logistics scopes and drilling-service contracts. Until then, the release should be read as a set of offshore-rig commitments with varying levels of disclosed project detail.
