The oil show itself has evolved along with the industry. Today, it’s recognized as one of the world’s largest and most forward-thinking inland petroleum expos.

Held biennially in Odessa, the oil show attracts professionals from around the globe, offering a unique platform to explore the latest technologies, discover innovative equipment, and foster valuable connections. Originally known as the “Little International Show” in 1940, the event paused during World War II but was revitalized by committed Permian Basin oilmen. By 1950, it was back and growing stronger each year. The show remains a nonprofit, volunteer-led event operated by industry experts dedicated to advancing knowledge for both office and field professionals.

Beyond showcasing innovation, the Permian Basin International Oil Show celebrates the industry’s heritage. A fully operational cable tool rig is displayed daily on the show grounds, accompanied by trucks and equipment from the 1930s—a transformative period for the Permian Basin. The Oldtimers’ Lounge, featuring historic memorabilia, honors the legacy and resilience of the oil and gas sector.
