31st Annual Permian Basin Oilman’s Bass Invitational
The Permian Basin Oilman’s Bass Invitational (PBOBI) returns for its 31st year on April 17–18, 2026 at beautiful Lake Amistad near Del Rio, Texas.
This highly anticipated invitational tournament brings together the Permian Basin oilfield community for two days of competition, camaraderie, and purpose—supporting the West Texas and New Mexico chapters of Make-A-Wish.
Since 1995, PBOBI has donated over $6 million, helping grant hundreds of wishes and provide vital support to families of children facing life-threatening illnesses.
Event Details
Dates: April 17–18, 2026
Location: Lake Amistad, Del Rio, Texas
Eligibility
- Participants must earn their primary income from the oil and gas industry or related services
- Retirees are eligible if not currently employed outside the oilfield industry
- Spouses and dependents (under age 22) may participate with an eligible angler
- Recent fishing guides (within the last 6 months in Texas) are not eligible
Note: This is an invitational tournament. Tournament officials reserve the right to refuse any entry.
Tournament Format
- Fishing hours: 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM (Friday & Saturday)
- Honor start at 6:00 AM each day
- Weigh-in begins at 2:00 PM daily
- Maximum of 3 fish per team per day
- Eligible species: Largemouth, Smallmouth, and Kentucky spotted bass
- Artificial lures only (no live or prepared bait)
Registration
Both team members must register at the Civic Center:
- Thursday, April 16: 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- Friday, April 17: 5:00 AM – 8:00 AM
Scoring
Winners are determined by the heaviest total weight across each day and combined totals. Ties are broken by total number of fish weighed.
Safety & Rules
- All participants must follow U.S. Coast Guard and Texas Parks & Wildlife regulations
- Personal flotation devices and kill switches are required
- Proof of liability insurance is mandatory for all boats
- Reckless behavior, rule violations, or substance use affecting safety will result in disqualification
Sportsmanship
- Respect fellow anglers and maintain safe distances
- No fishing in “no wake” zones
- Littering or unsportsmanlike conduct will result in disqualification
- Catch and release is strongly encouraged
