Description
Oil and gas production optimization is at the heart of any successful reservoir management strategy, yet it remains one of the most difficult engineering challenges to tackle. In this presentation, we demonstrate how MATLAB is used for production optimization of multi-well systems while accounting for several key operational constraints. Using inflow performance relationship (IPR) and vertical lift performance (VLP) curves from external simulators, we developed an efficient nonlinear solver to convert production rates from downhole to surface conditions along with a custom optimization cost function to find the set of well head pressures that optimizes production under predefined constraints.

· Processing IPR and VLP curves following an object-oriented approach.

· Developing fast n-dimensional interpolation functions to estimate a well operating point.

· Creating a nonlinear constrained optimization model to find optimal operating wellhead pressure.
