Texas American Water Works Association (TAWWA) and Water Environment Association of Texas (WEAT), in partnership with host utility Austin Water, are bringing young professionals from across the state together for the inaugural Texas YP Summit™.
This 1.5-day event is designed for early-career professionals and students interested in the Texas water industry. Attendees will have opportunities to strengthen leadership skills, expand their professional networks, explore emerging issues in the water sector, and take part in interactive team challenges.

Who Should Attend?
The Texas YP Summit is geared toward water industry professionals ages 35 and under, as well as students studying engineering, environmental science, business, communications, and other disciplines connected to the water sector.
Through educational sessions, networking opportunities, mentorship activities, and hands-on challenges, participants can gain a broader perspective on the industry’s current challenges and future opportunities while developing connections that support long-term career growth.
Event Schedule
Monday, October 5 – Optional Half-Day
- 1:00–3:00 p.m.: Austin Water Plant Tours — Choose between Ullrich Water Treatment Plant and South Austin Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant. Tours are limited to 25 participants each, with hotel shuttle service provided.
- 4:30–7:00 p.m.: Happy Hour Social with Capital Cruises — Enjoy an evening cruise on Lady Bird Lake with drinks and appetizers. Limited to 100 participants.
Tuesday, October 6 – Full-Day Summit
- 8:00 a.m.: Welcome Breakfast
- 8:30 a.m.: Opening Remarks from Alison Kwong, TAWWA Event Chair, followed by the keynote from Shay Ralls Roalson, Austin Water
- 9:00 a.m.: Tiny TopOps Group Trivia — Test your knowledge in a fast-paced competition based on AWWA’s Top Ops.
- 9:45 a.m.: TAWWA & WEAT Leadership Panel — Hear career insights and experiences from leaders representing both organizations.
- 10:30 a.m.: Mid-Morning Break
- 10:45 a.m.: YP Power Hour — Hear a series of 10-minute lightning presentations from young professionals.
- 11:45 a.m.: Lunch Break
- 1:00 p.m.: Mentorship + Mapping Your Future — Led by Alissa Lockett, TAWWA Past Chair & WEAT Past President, featuring a presentation and guided vision board activity.
- 1:45 p.m.: Water Circuit Challenge — Put your skills to the test through hands-on and problem-solving challenges while competing for prizes.
- 3:30 p.m.: Afternoon Break
- 3:45 p.m.: TAWWA & WEAT Strategic Plans — Share your perspective and help shape the future direction of both organizations.
- 4:15 p.m.: Awards Ceremony
- 4:30 p.m.: Closing Remarks
Explore Austin
Attendees arriving early or extending their stay can use the Austin Welcome Guide to explore the city. Suggested activities include attending Austin City Limits Music Festival from October 2–4, hiking Mount Bonnell, shopping on South Congress, touring the Texas State Capitol, and experiencing local restaurants and bars throughout central and north Austin.
The summit will also host a social media challenge on LinkedIn and Instagram. Share a photo from one of the Welcome Guide locations using #TXYPSummit26 and tag TAWWA and WEAT on LinkedIn or @texasawwa and @weatxorg on Instagram. Prizes will be awarded during the summit on October 6.
