Presentation: “Clear Fluid Journey – Case Histories and Lessons Learned”

Explore the evolution of a clear-fluid program as well complexity increased, with case studies covering oil-based and water-based fluid performance, three-mile laterals, sweeps and lubricating pills, torque and drag, drilling efficiency, and the mechanical tradeoffs of 5-inch versus 5.5-inch drill pipe.

Roy Alan De Napoli has more than 20 years of drilling experience across multiple basins in the U.S. and South America. He currently supports Apache’s U.S. Onshore team as a Senior Drilling Engineering Advisor in Houston.

Presentation: “AI Evaluation – Measuring the effectiveness of mechanical lubricants with high density data”

This presentation examines AI-enabled analytics applied to historical Delaware Basin well data to forecast mechanical-lubricant treatment requirements for future water-based mud wells. The study evaluates torque reduction, bead condition, consumption, renewal trends, and drill pipe wear to support data-driven lubricant-treatment decisions.

Dallas Milligan is a Senior Staff Drilling Engineer at Devon Energy with more than 8 years of experience. A Professional Engineer, he has worked in offshore deep water and ERD drilling across multiple basins and currently works in the Permian Basin.

Senior Drilling Engineer – K&M Technology Group
Presentation: “When is the need for lubricants truly necessary?”

Examine when lubricants are genuinely needed to manage torque and drag in water-based mud systems. Field case studies highlight friction-factor reductions, performance over time, and situations where modern surface equipment and optimized drill string design may make lubricant additions unnecessary.

Roberto Cruz-Nemer has more than 15 years of experience drilling challenging ERD wells worldwide, specializing in ultra-long laterals, multi-laterals, deepwater MPD and HPHT wells. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Wichita State University and Tecnológico de Monterrey.
