As part of its charter, the Louisiana Gas Association (LGA) proudly sponsors Public Education and Public Relations initiatives, including annual scholarship
awards to qualifying students attending accredited four-year colleges and universities.
Since 1998, the LGA has awarded more than $258,000 in scholarships to support higher education and invest in the future of our industry and communities.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be the son, daughter, legal ward, or dependent of an employee meeting the following criteria:
- The employee must work for an active LGA member company that has maintained membership for at least one full calendar year prior to the scholarship deadline.
- Companies providing multiple utilities, products, or services are eligible only if
50% or more of job functions are directly related to the natural gas transmission
or distribution industry. - The member company must conduct 50% or more of its work in Louisiana.
- Current or past LGA Board Members employed by an active member company are eligible,
regardless of primary work location.

- The required Employee Verification Form must be completed by the employee, signed by the company’s primary representative, and mailed with the application.
Applications submitted without this form or required signature will be considered incomplete. - A member company is considered active and eligible if an employee attended the LGA
Annual Operations Conference or an LGA Educational Seminar during the previous calendar year. - Applicants are considered without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, religion, handicap, or veteran status.
- Prior LGA scholarship recipients are not eligible to reapply.
- Individual or Special Members and their employees are not eligible.
Scholarship Criteria
Undergraduate Criteria
- Must be a full-time student enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university (or a combined four-year and specialty program, such as nursing school).
- Must have completed at least 60 credit hours (Junior or Senior classification).
- Must be 25 years old or younger at the time of application.
- Must be actively enrolled at the time of application submission.
- Must demonstrate well-rounded involvement through extracurricular activities, leadership roles, club participation, or community service.
Master’s Degree Criteria
- Must be currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program at an accredited institution.
- Must demonstrate academic excellence and leadership within their field of study.

Scholarship Awards
Award amounts are determined annually by the LGA Board of Directors and granted by consensus of the Scholarship Committee.
- College Juniors/Seniors: $2,500 awarded to up to ten qualifying students.
- Master’s Degree Scholarship: $2,500 awarded to students actively pursuing a Master’s degree.
- Competitive Scholarship: $5,000 awarded to one student who demonstrates exceptional achievement beyond standard criteria.
Application Deadline & Notification
Completed applications and all required documentation must be postmarked by July 15, 2026 to be considered.
Scholarship recipients are typically announced and awarded in August.
