During their time working in Guyana, Claire and Jay implemented motorized rotary steerable systems in open water work operations—eliminating slide drilling and substantially increasing rate of penetration. Their work on Deepwater Open Water Work Drilling Optimization was presented at SPE’s 2024 Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE). Claire and Jay are both currently based in Houston, TX supporting ExxonMobil’s Wells Organization.

• Using the tunnel system, those working downtown can walk to our meeting in air-conditioned comfort.
• If you will drive to this meeting, the following summarizes available parking:

• The image above shows how to access the club parking area at the Petroleum Club’s new location. Enter from Milam Street and exit onto Louisiana Street. The parking fee is paid at the central meter outside the building entrance via credit card.
• Surface parking lots are available south of the TOTAL Plaza building (between this building and the former EXXON Building), including one adjacent to the TOTAL Plaza Building—pay at meter (cost ~ $ $9). Other surface lots in the area cost $8 – $9, and they frequently are full by mid-morning. The valet is $15 to $18 if receiving the ‘yellow sticker’ on the 35th floor (Petroleum Club).
• Parking is also available in the Hyatt Regency Hotel garage across the street. Prices vary depending on the time spent in the garage. Two hours of parking costs $12 to $15.

Claire Lafferty
Claire Lafferty, Advanced Wells Engineer at ExxonMobil, has held a variety of roles across the Upstream business – with a focus on Drilling, Completions, and Well Servicing activities. She has worked on major oil and gas development projects in the Permian Basin and offshore Guyana, among others. She holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Vanderbilt University with a double major in Chemical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, along with a minor in Chemistry. Her multidisciplinary background and broad field experience contribute to her integrated approach to well delivery and performance optimization.
