While methane mitigation is no easy feat, there are numerous providers who will suggest their widget is indeed the silver bullet. They claim the one and only technology will solve your methane problems. Unfortunately, that technology does not exist.\nSatellites only see large leaks on clear days, OGI cameras require operators to visit the site making them cost prohibitive for catching leaks early. Continuous monitors can’t pinpoint the source. Although modest reductions are achievable with any device, maximizing the methane abated versus cost involves knowing how available tools fit together into a holistic methane reduction package.\nThis presentation will show existing detection options: planes, helicopters, drones, satellites, OGI cameras, and continuous monitoring and consider how to deploy these technologies in a way which achieves maximum benefit for the minimum cost. Finally, how can you construct a methane detection system that will answer your specific questions.\n1.0 Professional Development Hour\n1.0 Continuing Legal Education Hour\nStephen Conley, PhD\nChairman, Scientific Aviation\nThe Importance of S&G in ESG\nSponsored by Steptoe & Johnson PLLC\nThis session will provide an overview of ESG and discuss the importance of the S, social and G, governance and how the industry is working with local communities and all stakeholders during project proposal, development, and completion.\n1.0 Professional Development Hour\n1.0 Continuing Legal Education Hour\nMichael E. Established methods to permit, design, operate, and monitor UIC wells have established a safe disposal and storage alternative for industry. To meet net-zero goals, these methods can be successfully implemented to insure the safe and secure long-term disposal through carbon capture and sequestration (CCS). The most successful projects will have to navigate and satisfy geologic feasibility, regulatory requirements, and commercial requisites. Geologic criteria include: (1) adequate upper confinement to protect the lowermost Underground Source of Drinking Water (USDW); (2) sufficient storage capacity to sequester the anticipated volume of CO2; and (3) identification and assessment of vertical migration pathways that could compromise permanent storage and potentially threaten the USDW. With geologic requirements satisfied, a stable regulatory framework can be established with advanced efforts to understand the local and state readiness along with early coordination with regulators and stakeholders. These pieces feed into the ever-evolving landscape of policy incentives and advancement of capture technology, making commercialization opportunities available for sustainable CCS programs.\n1.0 Professional Development Hour\n1.0 Continuing Legal Education Hour\nGraciela Moore, PG\nDirector, Geologist, WSP\nComing to a Town Near You: Local Government and the Environmental Rights Amendment\nSponsored by Manko, Gold, Katcher & Fox, LLP\nThis summer, Pennsylvania’s Commonwealth Court threw out Grant Township’s attempt to ban industry activity through the adoption of a Home Rule Charter. This program will provide an update on that case and other continuing efforts to restrict unconventional shale development throughout the Appalachian Basin through local government proceedings. In particular, the presentation will address attempts to use the Pennsylvania Environmental Rights Amendment at the local government level to limit and even ban industry activity. Early on, companies eager to meet the energy transition expectations of their shareholders used divestment as a tool to rapidly decarbonize their asset portfolio. More recently, this concept of M&A activity as a way to meet corporate climate targets has caught the attention of investors and ENGOs/NGOs. As it has become apparent that transferred emissions may hamper macro energy transition goals, companies’ strategies need to evolve. In this session, the concept of transferred emissions will be covered broadly and we will offer actionable ways to build effective and credible tools.\n1.0 Professional Development Hour\n1.0 Continuing Legal Education Hour\nRebecca Denney, PE\nSenior ESG/Sustainability Professional, Geosyntec Consultants, Inc.\n4:30 pm – 6:00 pm | Networking Reception in Exhibit Hall\nNetworking Reception\nSponsored by Project Canary\n6:00 pm | Open Night\n\n\nTHURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2022\n\n7:30 am – 12:30 pm | Registration Open\n8:30 am – 10:00 am | Breakfast and General Session\nBreakfast\nWelcome Back to SHALE INSIGHT® 2022 and University Research Showcase Highlights\nDavid Callahan\nPresident, Marcellus Shale Coalition\nJennifer Hoffman\nVice President, EHSR and Communications, Olympus Energy LLC\nNatural Gas: A Catalyst Fuel, Not a Bridge Fuel\nSponsored by CNX Resources\nJeff Nobers | Introduction\nExecutive Director, Builders Guild of Western PA\nNicholas J.
