SUMMARY:Register Now for Society of Petroleum Engineers Oklahoma City Section (SPEOKC) Workshop and Happy Hour – December 11, 2025 – Oklahoma City, OK
DESCRIPTION:Date: December 11, 2025\nTime: 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM (CT)\nHosted by: SPE Oklahoma City Section\nWorkshop Topic\n“Don’t Stand So Close to Me” – Parent/Child Well Interactions & Their Economic Impact\nPresented by Braden Bowie, Product Manager, Whitson\nAbstract\nParent/child well interactions remain one of the most complex and uncertain challenges in modern reservoir development.\nThis workshop explores practical methods for refining depletion metrics by incorporating both produced volumes and\ndistance-based decay. Attendees will examine how depletion behavior influences well performance and economic outcomes,\nwith data and results centered on the Midland Basin.\nThe discussion also addresses how true vertical depth (TVD) differences affect parent/child relationships, highlighting\nthe role of frac barriers and their ability to limit fracture propagation—ultimately reducing depletion impact. While\nexamples focus on the Midland Basin, the principles and methodologies apply across all major basins.\nBiography: Braden Bowie\nBraden Bowie graduated from the University of Calgary in 2012 and began his career at Apache, working on the Duvernay\nplay with an emphasis on optimizing development in the retrograde condensate window. In 2017, he relocated to Houston,\nwhere he specialized in Rate Transient Analysis (RTA) and machine learning applications for the Midland Basin.\nHis work included the development of “Numerical RTA” and applying predictive modeling to enhance the economic\nperformance of drilling programs. In 2020, Braden became Reservoir Lead for the Midland Basin, where he leveraged machine\nlearning to guide development strategies focused on wider spacing and larger frac designs.\nIn July 2025, he joined Whitson to lead development of WhitsonX—a tool designed to optimize DSUs by integrating well\nspacing, depletion, and economics into a unified platform.\nEvent Location\nBricktown Brewery\n1 N Oklahoma Ave\nOklahoma City, OK 73104\nUnited States\n
